What is ACC?
ACC stands for Accident Compensation Corporation. It is responsible for taking care of New Zealand’s no-fault accident compensation. Through its scheme, the ACC provides financial compensation and support to citizens, residents, and temporary visitors who have suffered personal injuries.
This service can help you cover your dental treatment related to your accident or injury. Most of the times the ACC covers 100% of the costs of the procedures and appointments needed to get you back smiling again. However, some terms and conditions apply.
So, if you were involved in any kind of accident, even if you think was not that serious, the ACC’s got you covered. All you have to do is come visit us and we will help you with all the paperwork required, making the ACC claim and getting an approval for your treatment.

Frequently asked Questions about ACC
What should I do if I hurt my teeth in an accident?
Just contact us via email or phone, or even stop by our practice for a consultation with one of our excellent dentists. If your injury was recent, they will help you manage the emergency. But, if your injury was a long time ago, or even if it was something that was already taken care of, we might be also able to help.
How do I know if I am eligible for ACC coverage?
ACC’s no-fault scheme covers everyone, including visitors, who are injured in an accident in New Zealand, even if you are not a resident or citizen. It covers children, beneficiaries, students, if you’re working, unemployed, or retired.
The main requirement is for your dental injury to be caused by an accident, regardless of time and place. This means it doesn’t matter what you were doing when you were injured or who was at fault as long as the injury falls within ACC’s legislation.
What will happen during the consult?
After your consult, we send the paperwork to the ACC with the treatment suggested for you and get their approval. Once your claim gets approved, we will give you a call to set an appointment and start your treatment straight away.
What treatments are covered?
The ACC covers over 90% of the cases, and they pay for 100% of the dental treatment required regardless of the number of appointments needed to solve your injury. Even if your tooth or teeth have been treated before, or if you were fitted with an implant or prosthesis and it breaks or causes you injury in some way. The ACC will not cover treatments related to existing decay (dental caries/cavities), gum disease or dental pathologies associated with poor oral hygiene.
However, there are few cases where you might have to pay part of your treatment, that will depend on every patient’s condition. Your dentist or our staff are able to help you find out if you are unsure of your eligibility.
What happens if my claim is not accepted?
Although most cases get approval, sometimes the ACC might ask us to provide further information about your injury, or would only cover part of your treatment. But don’t worry, if that is the case, one member of our staff will contact you and inform the decision & if necessary, they can set you an appointment with your dentist to discuss the best alternative.
